Colorways – Mixing Colors In-Person
October 13, Sunday, 12:30-3:30pm.
Max: 6 students | Taught with Two Hands Paperie in Boulder, CO
Cost: $115; includes materials but see the list of Class Materials.
Learn how to mix colors and how to understand color relationships in this hands-on watercolor class. It’s led by Lexis Krieg, a Denver artist known for colorful art that’s full of joy. She specializes in designing workshops that help students connect to their own color and joy so that they feel more grounded, calm, and present.
Everyone receives the same dot card of watercolors. The card contains the three primary colors, from which you’ll create a multitude of other colors. It’s important that everyone is using the same watercolors for this class. (If you’ve ever compared red from one watercolor set to the red in another, you know what we’re talking about. They’re not the same, and the result when they’re mixed with another color is not the same.)
Lexis talks about color relationships and color terminology while guiding you through the class worksheets. She’s specifically designed these worksheets to give you direct experience in creating colors from just the three primary colors on your card. Practice how to “work through mud” (!!), why the order in which colors are laid down matters, what color equations are, and when color swatching is useful.
We’re amazed that Lexis has packed so much about color into one class. You’re bound to make a few joyful discoveries while gaining practical experience in mixing and using colors. We can hardly wait to see what you create!
