Oracle Cards: A Daily Practice for Insight + Reflection

You want a tool that provides fertile ground for personal growth + an opportunity for your creativity to thrive. You’re familiar with oracle cards + their alluring imagery, but you haven’t figured out how to incorporate them into your daily life or what they really do.

Mystified by the mystical properties of these cards, you long to learn more! You want in on their power to connect you with Creative Self.

How would it feel, then, to know the secret of how oracle cards work? To have the power to connect with intuition + Creative Self without paying a professional to guide you in an experience?

I’ve got you. I’m going to tell you why a daily oracle card practice builds a connection with Creative Self, how I personally use oracle cards to connect with Creative Self + share the tools you need to get started.

Why oracle cards create connection with Creative Self

As an artist, one of the best ways I know how to connect with Creative Self—besides actually making art— is my daily oracle card practice

Oracle cards have proved to be a valuable tool for processing what’s going on in my head + discovering motives behind my emotions. This practice helps me connect with my intuition + benefits my mental health because of the built in journaling practice.

For me, this builds trust in my self worth, which makes me feel more confident in my actions. I am then more likely to trust that everything is happening for the highest good + I release my need to control the outcome.

I then feel more grounded + calm + present. Creative Self is shining light into the world + I find myself in a state of flow with the rhythm of my own life.

The more often I give myself this time to be still with my thoughts + emotions, the more I activate my intuition, the more connected I am to Creative Self.

Why you need a daily practice

A daily oracle card practice builds a connection with Creative Self, which strengthens your intuition,

Through the act of pulling an oracle card each day, I invite moments of stillness + contemplation into my life. This practice nudges me to pause, breathe + dive into the symbolic language of the cards, prompting reflection on my current state of mind.

This daily pause offers a precious opportunity to tune into my intuition, unearth subconscious thoughts + gain new perspectives that can invigorate my creative process, as well as provide reassurance that I am traveling the right path.

This practice serves as a powerful catalyst for self-discovery + transformation on my path to feeling more grounded, calm + present. It bridges the gap between the conscious + unconscious mind, illuminating pathways to deeper insights, self-expression + artistic breakthroughs.

But when I let my daily practice slip, I notice the resistance that takes over. Rather than flowing through my life, I’m questioning + controlling everything. I feel stuck, the light of Creative Self is dim + it becomes harder to access my intuition.

This is why a consistent daily practice is so important.

My personal daily practice

My oracle card practice is part of my general morning routine. Immediately upon getting out of bed, I begin my day with 3-5 brief sun salutations. I wash my face, then make my morning latte + a light breakfast (plus breakfast for my girls.)

Next, I sit in a comfortable spot in the living room with all my things: oracle cards, journal, pen, coffee + toast.

In the summer I sit on the outdoor couch + enjoy some solitude. When I’m outdoors, I’m able to more easily sit in silence for several moments to center myself.

During the colder, darker months, I sit in the living room in full sight of my family. Indoors, I begin my card reading without any special ceremony.

You may be wondering how I’m able to practice such an intimate process in my living room with my children + husband around.

First, it’s an imperfect practice + I have made peace that it’s not as dreamy as I would like it to be. On school days, there’s still the nagging of getting ready for school that pierces my practice.

But showing up imperfectly is better than not showing up at all.

Second, it has become a morning habit in our household. My daily oracle card reading + journaling has been a practice of mine for over 6 months, so my kids generally leave me alone in my chair. My husband also has his own morning reading habit in his chair.

Once I’m settled, I pull a card from my oracle deck + read the corresponding page in the guide book. I like to write down phrases I’m drawn to + mantras I want to remember. Often the guide book has a prompt to consider.

Depending on how the morning is going, I’ll journal about the prompt or just think on the ideas presented. Sometimes I use creative lettering for phrases that stand out for me + other times I draw inspired imagery.

I follow this practice about 5 days a week. Some mornings, I’m only able to pull a card + read the guide book. With 2 school-aged-kidswho wake up earlythere isn’t always time for me to have a deep dive practice, but I consider a short practice better than nothing.

By consistently engaging with these cards, I have established a ritual that nurtures my creativity, boosts my confidence + fuels my artistic exploration. Each drawn card carries a unique message or symbol that acts as a guiding light, sparking new ideas, unlocking untapped potential + steers my creative energy in fresh directions.

How to perform an easy oracle card reading for yourself

Learn the exact steps for the practice I have developed to make my daily oracle card reading easy to perform from the comfort of a chair.

Tools to start your oracle card practice

ORACLE CARDS:

To begin your own journey of connecting with your Creative Self through oracle cards, you will need a deck of oracle cards that resonates with you personally.

It’s important to find an oracle deck that you are drawn to. It could be the imagery that you find interesting or the theme of the deck that you feel called toward. Choose a deck based on your intuition + aesthetic preferences.

I have three main decks that I rotate through. I’ll use a deck for several weeks + then transition to another when I feel the deck needs to be charged. Setting the deck out in the light of the full moon is the perfect way to charge a deck. Sometimes I use all three together for a deeper reading.

Suggested decks:

The Starseed Oracle | Have you always had a longing for home without really knowing what that meant? If so, you could be a Starseed Soul - one who has incarnated elsewhere in the cosmos before your time on Earth. Activate your cosmic energy + awaken the whispers of your soul through the lost lands, energy portals + ancient sites of this beautiful 53-card oracle card deck + guidebook.

Prairie Majesty Oracle | Each animal, plant + element on the prairie has a vital role in the harmonious whole, just as you have your unique part to play in this life. Embrace your personal power, freedom + purpose with the whimsical art + thoughtful questions on each of the 52 cards of this oracle.

The Sacred Creators Oracle | For dream-chasers + magic-makers seeking spirituality, serendipity, magic, intuition + expansive potential in everyday life-or in business! The messages you will receive will guide you take inspired action in your life as you follow your soul's journey or plan your next project. An uplifting 67-card oracle deck with a comprehensive guidebook for your creator soul.

Additional options to find an oracle deck you love:

Hay House offers a large selection of oracle cards to connect with intuition + unlock inner guidance.

Confía Collective, located in Denver, provides fresh, fun + accessible spiritual tools for new age adventurers to step inside their intuition.

JOURNAL:

Select a dedicated journal for your oracle card reading practice. Recording your insights allows you to revisit the reading later + track any patterns or progress.

Don’t worry about having a fancy journal, unless you want one. I find having an inexpensive journal makes me more likely to write + not worry about messing anything up on the perfect white page. I’ve already completed one journal + I love pulling it out when I’m in my studio for inspiration.

Suggested journal:

Hardbound Dot Journal | I can get very particular about the paper I write + draw on: I want it smooth, just the right weight + a comfortable size. I’ve come to love these dotted pages because they are great for writing + drawing.

The dot grid offers just enough structure to the page while still giving me freedom to cover the page with doodles. With a sturdy cover for writing in my lap, 2 ribbon markers + an elastic to keep it closed, it feels like the perfect journal. Plus, at under $10, I feel comfortable to keep writing + I don’t worry about using up all the paperit’s a thing!

PEN: Pick a pen that feels good to write with. You want it to glide over the page + work with the momentum of your writing. I prefer a basic black pen for this practice, but go for your favorite color, if you would like.

Suggested pens:

Sharpie S-Gel gel pen | I love the way these gel pens glide over my journal page.

Papermate Flair felt-tip | I keep these in my studio anyway + enjoy the bold black line.

You now hold the power to unlocking the mystery of oracle cards.

A daily oracle card practice serves as a powerful tool to cultivate a deep connection with your Creative Self. By embracing this ritual, you not only enrich your creative practice, but also cultivate a profound connection with your intuition.

May you use my imperfect practice as inspiration for beginning your own daily ritual. This practice not only helps me tune into my creativity but also fosters a sense of mindfulness, clarity + intention to my day.
